Agency Type: Public Altoona Center, a fully licensed ICF/MR, is a public residential facility operated by the Department of Public Welfare as one of the major mental retardation centers within the Commonwealth service delivery system. Its mission is to serve developmentally delayed-physically handicapped persons from Pennsylvania. Programs and services of the Center are made available to each person, through an interdisciplinary team as provided for in an established habilitation plan. The facility provides for a range of developmental assessments as well as varied programs and therapies until the individual is leaving the Center. Eligibility: Must be referred through the county base service unit and all commitments to the facility are made through the courts.
