Provides cash assistance, medical assistance, food stamps, energy assistance and information and referral services for qualified low income individuals. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

PROGRAMS:

CASH ASSISTANCE
The agency administers three categories of cash assistance. 1. Transitional Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) for children and their families who need money to live on because a parent is dead, disabled, absent from home or unemployed. 2. General Assistance (GA) cash assistance for people in need who do not meet the conditions of TANF. 3. State Blind Pension (SBP) for blind persons not receiving federal assistance through SSI program.

ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The Energy Assistance Program was established by the Federal Government to help people on low or fixed incomes to pay their fuel bills. In Pennsylvania this program is administrated by the Department of Public Welfare through the County Assistance Office.

Eligibility: Low income.


FOOD STAMPS
This is a federal Department of Agriculture program which is administered through the County Assistance Office. Goal is to upgrade the standard of nutrition. Eligibility is based on family size, income and resources.

INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICES
Information and referral services for individuals with health and social problems.

Eligibility: Low income.


MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
Individuals and families eligible for cash assistance are automatically eligible for medical assistance. Other families with low incomes may also qualify.
