To promote the recognition of victim's rights and provide victims and witnesses of crime with the assistance and services necessary to support and aid them through the Criminal Justice System. This program endeavors to assure victims and witnesses of their right to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect during the course of criminal proceedings. Some of the services provides are:

  • Advocacy, Early Outreach, Intake & Assessment
  • Provide orientation to the criminal justice system regarding participation in the process for victims and witness subpoenaed to testify at trial.
  • Victims/Witness Handbook distribution to victim.
  • Coordinate and schedule victim/witness appearance for jury trials, including the use of an on-call system, where possible.
  • Provide and maintain a secure waiting area for Victims and Witnesses.
  • Provide case status information to victims and witnesses, upon request.
  • Help complete and file Pennsylvania Crime Victims' Compensation Claims, if eligible.
  • Assist with property return follow-up; assist with restitution issues.
  • Assist in the completion of a Victim Impact Statement about financial, physical and emotional effects of crime.
  • Assist in following up complaints of intimidation or harassment of a victim or a witness.
  • Provide emotional and crisis support, including referrals to groups and agencies that can help.
  • Provide victims with copies of final sentencing orders.
  • Arrange for volunteers to give help, including accompaniment at trial.
  • Help provide victim input regarding disposition of cases.
  • Help with provisions for transportation, child care, and employer/creditor/school intercession.
  • Provide forms and assist with victim enrollment in Notification Programs of the State Prison, the Local Prison, and Mental Health Commitments.
  • Promotion of the Victim/Witness Program through public awareness, education, handbooks, and Speaker's Bureau.
  • Assists in making community referrals for additional services.
  • Guides a monthly support group for homicide and homicide survivor families and friends.
  • Accompanies victims and witnesses to court hearings.
