Agency Type: Public Enforces civil laws involving advertisement, sale, lease and financing of consumer goods and services in an effort to prevent unfair or deceptive acts and practices. Provides complaint mediation services, investigates acts and practices which violate the Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law and prosecutes such violations where a pattern can be established and when the action is in the "public interest." PROGRAMS:
SPEAKER/OUTREACH (CONSUMER EDUCATION) Representatives of the Bureau of Consumer Protection will meet with individuals and provide consumer education presentations to groups upon request. CONSUMER COMPLAINT MEDIATION PROGRAM Bureau of Consumer Protection, a civil law enforcement agency, offers mediation services for complaints which are filed against businesses.
