Family Services also run the Domestic Abuse Shelter and the Teen Shelter. PROGRAMS: COUNSELING PROGRAM: Professional therapeutic counseling services for individuals (children and adults), couples and families who have personal, relationship, legal, educational, financial and related problems. Fees are based on family size, income, and county of residence. Some managed care coverage availability. DOMESTIC ABUSE PROJECT (814) 944-3585 or 1-800-500-2849 A program working with victims of domestic violence that provides a wide variety of services including information and referral, 24-Hour hotline, individual and group counseling, advocacy, assistance filing protection orders, and emergency (protective services) shelter. Domestic violence is defined as a pattern of coercive behaviors and control that includes the use of physical, sexual, psychological and economic abuse by a partner, ex-partner or any other person with whom the victim has an ongoing relationship. Safe shelter is provided for battered women and their dependent children. Services for male victims are available. Eligibility: Victims of domestic abuse and their families MEN HELPING MEN An educational and supportive group counseling program for men who want to change their abusive attitudes and behavior towards the women partners in their lives. The group is based on a 16-week program and meets on a weekly basis. Fees are based on income and county of residence. RUNAWAY AND HOMELESS YOUTH PROGRAM (814) 941-0975 (800) 227-8336 Program provides counseling and emergency shelter services for runaway and homeless youth and counseling for their family members and friends. Shelter on a 24-hour basis, located at 3718 6th Avenue, Altoona, PA. Separate hotline (800 942-8101) for gays, lesbian and bisexual teens available as well. Eligibility: 12-18 years of age CRIME VICTIM SUPPORT SERVICES Counseling, support groups, court accompaniment, advocacy, information and referral for victims of sexual assault and other violent crimes. Services provided for children and adult victims, witnesses to violent crime and their loved ones. Licensed therapists to provide therapeutic counseling. Program provides extensive informational and educational presentations about sexual violence, violent crime and related topics. No fees are charged for client services. Eligibility: Victims of rape and other major crimes and their families DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES PROGRAM Program offers community residential facilities, family living, respite care, alternative day program and home services for people with developmental disabilities. The program is licensed by the Department of Public Welfare and adheres to the regulations therein. Eligibility: Determined by County's North Star Support Services (Mental Retardation Base Services Unit). EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM Therapeutic counseling services for employees and family members of companies having assistance contracts with the agency. TRAINING AND CONSULTING INSTITUTE Provides effective training and consulting services to employers and professionals in Central Pennsylvania. These fee-based services are planned with input from the purchasing organization and designed to meet the specific needs identified. Seminars cover the spectrum from team building and conflict prevention to psychotropic medications for the non-medical practitioner. The strategic planning process, organizational strength assessment, and succession planning are a few of the more administratively focused services provided. FAMILY GROUP DECISION MAKING Family Group Decision Making is a creative and innovative practice that seeks to ensure child safety and well being within their own family and community. Family Group Decision Making empowers families to take responsibility for the on-going care and protection of their children with the support of the community. The Family Group Decision Making process improves the partnership and collaboration between the family and service providers. TEACHING LEARNING CONNECTING This program is designed to help women reintegrate into the community following a prison term for drug related offenses. This program is designed to stop recidivism, provide a convenient and comfortable atmosphere to receive drug and alcohol services, improve self-sufficiency, offer access to community resources, and work on an essential life skills plan Eligibility: Blair County women convicted on drug and alcohol related charges and are referred by the Criminal Justice Assessment Team. SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR EVERGREEN MANORS A program coordinating the delivery of social services within the Evergreen Manors community. Eligibility: Residents from Evergreen Manors
