Agency Type: Not for Profit The Primary responsibility for the development and well being of children lies within the family; A healthy community supports and empowers families; healthy families can be resources to themselves and other community members. Therefore, the Family Resource Center will: help families ensure positive educational, social and health outcomes for their children, advocate with families for community-based, collaborative social services that are responsive, supportive, and preventive; provide a place for families to meet, learn, play and connect with others. PROGRAMS: CHILD DEVELOPMENT / PARENTING
The "Parent As Teachers" program is a Blueprint program provideing ongoing home visits by Certified Parent Educators. The focus is on child development, parenting enhancement and family support. This program also provides center-based group activites and access to book/video/toy lending library for its participants. It is a free program to all Blair County families with no income guidelines for participation. Several times a year, Family Resource Center offers a center-based parenting program for the general public, "Make Parenting a Pleasure." Parent Educators are also available to provide parenting education workshops for community groups. Call the Center for current scheduling information on these activites. INFORMATION & REFERRAL
The Family Resource Center will provide information about and referral to community resourcesfor community members who call or come to the center seeking information. It also provides brochures about those resources in its lobby for public use. The Center, also provides information about and assistance in filling out forms for children's low-cost health insurance.
