Agency Type: Not For Profit Habitat for Humanity Blair County is a Christian based organization that builds new homes to be sold to low-income persons (between 30 - 70% of median) at 0% interest and at no profit. Habitat utilizes donated cash, labor, and materials to make the homes affordable. PROGRAMS: Families chosen for a house are required to donate 300 hours of "Sweat Equity" (labor) on their house. Habitat averages 2 homes per year. Families are chosen based on 1) need, 2) commitment to Habitat, and 3) ability to pay. Applications are accepted on a daily basis. Ads are placed in the Altoona Mirror, on the radio, and sent to area churches and social service providers.
