Founded in 1787, the Pennsylvania Prison Society’s mission is to promote a more humane, just, and constructive correctional system, through advocacy, client services, publications, and visitation by volunteers. The Blair County Chapter is made up entirely of volunteers so there is no charge for their services. The chapter has no office or phone. PRISON VISITATION
Staff and volunteers visit the county and state prisons to monitor conditions and advocate for the safe and humane treatment of prisoners. Visiting team members provide intervention, information and referral services to prisoners and their families on a variety of institutional and pre-release issues. Volunteers also conduct specific programs within the institution such as developing self-esteem, parenting skills, life skills, conflict resolution, and employment preparation classes.
