PROGRAMS
Annual community Thanksgiving dinner
Each year the Salvation Army provides a free Thanksgiving dinner to people within the community at no charge.
Christmas Assistance
The Salvation Army provides “Treasures for children” and a Christmas meal to income eligible individuals, children, and families. The Treasures for children program is made possible through generous donations from community members, businesses, and organizations. Funds raised during the annual red kettle campaign help purchase toys and food for this program. Toys are also collected from area businesses and organizations and distributed to families in need. Individuals with out children receive a food basket with all of the trimmings needed to cook a Christmas meal.
EDS—Emergency Disaster Services
In the event of an emergency and/or disaster the Salvation Army is on scene to assist emergency officials and victims.
Food Bank Assistance
The Salvation Army food bank, located at 1813 6th Avenue, can provide up to a 7 day supply of emergency food.
Information and referral services
The Salvation Army provides information and referrals to individuals who are in need of assistance that is not or can not be provided by the Salvation Army. Referrals are made to other non-profit organizations throughout Blair County and/or surrounding areas.
Project Bundle Up
Project Bundle Up is a program that provides warm winter coats, hats, gloves, and boots to Income eligible children and seniors.
Teen Center
Each Friday from 7:00 p.m.—10:00 p.m. teens are invited to come and interact with peers their age. Volleyball, pool table, ping pong, basketball, video games, and other youth activities offered. Adult supervision and snacks are provided.
Utility Assistance
In the event of an emergency or shut off notice, the Salvation Army can provide assistance with utility bills. Assistance is based upon available funding. Individuals will complete an in-take application and provide required documentation. Clients must provide proof of income and other required documents. Appointments are scheduled at least 1 day in advance by calling 942-8104.
Additional programs held at the Salvation Army
KITS (Kids in Tournaments) - Each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:00—6:00 p.m. This program is provided free of charge to school age kids K-12 grades. Homework help, crafts, snacks, computer, and recreation provided. All school age students are eligible. Parents are responsible for transportation.
NA meeting – Each Tuesday from 8:00 –9:00 P.m.
Soup kitchen—Each Sunday from 4:00—5:30 p.m. a warm hot meal is provided free of charge to less fortunate members of the community
WIC Clinic— 1st Tuesday of each month the Salvation Army supplies the WIC program with space for providing nutrition education and vouchers to participants of the WIC program. |
